Let me preface this by acknowledging work already done on this subject eg by Miri at https://miriaf.co.uk/dont-play-uk/
I won't go over the ground she covered so well there. It seems as though this spontaneous grassroots consumer activism group is backed now by Gordon Brown. He has said a bunch of things but with the very broad hint that if utility companies can't fix things they should be nationalised.
By “things” I mean runaway price inflation in fuel supplies prompted, at least in part, by sanctions against Mr Evil himself, who is busily oppressing the brave freedom loving citizens of Ukraine. One day soon those sanctions gonna kick in. Oh. They did.
I didn't see Gordon being quoted with approval on the wildly popular Don't Pay UK social media pages but I won't claim I lingered there for long. They do seem to have turned off the 'Posts By Visitors’ section, perhaps the occasional sarcastic messages such as “Will Soros pay my bill?” got too close to reality?

Returning to Gordon Brown. He has a track record for printing gazillions of pounds of fictional money and giving it to bankers. To save the economy. As we know that worked like a charm.
What if, just possibly, the utility companies _were_ nationalised? Lots of magic electronic money siphoned off to the usual suspects to convert into real assets. For example all those boxy little estates of houses on the fringes of towns all over the place? Because housing crisis.
Or bankrupt pubs shuttered because of lockdowns? Maybe a nice warehouse full of PPE, or have those all been incinerated? A locust farm for yummy bug burgers, there could be big bucks to be made there.
We know how entrepreneurs love to take risks and motor the economy with money that fell into their back pockets.
Just spitballing here.
Would it solve the energy crisis? Make the world greener? Might the whole thing be preparing the ground for the next Grand Theft?
